Año 2199, la Tierra fue bombardeada por el planeta Gamilus y contaminada por la radiactividad de sus ataques con asteroides, la faz de la tierra se ha borrado, los océanos se han evaporado y la radiación ha llegado hasta gran parte del subsuelo. 2 cadetes: Kodai Susumu y Shima Daisuke descubren una bella mujer que yace muerta y que tiene en su poder una cápsula con un mensaje de la hermana de aquella chica, quien se identifica como Starsha, reina del planeta Iscandar. Ella ofrece su ayuda a los terrestres enviándoles un plano para la construcción de un motor que les permitirá viajar más rápido que la luz y así poder alcanzar, en menos de 1 año, el sistema Sunzar donde está el planeta Iscandar.
